What We Treat
Acute Injuries
Fallen off your bike and hurt your shoulder? Rolled your ankle while running? Hurt your back during an 8-week boot-camp challenge? Or simply twisted funny and felt something ‘ping’? Acute injuries happen all the time and usually at the worst possible moments. As osteopaths, we have the ability to file ACC claim forms on your behalf, as well as refer you for any x-ray or ultrasound imaging, or to a specialist for further investigation if we think it’s necessary. In the early stages of injury we are able to give gentle treatment and advice on best management of pain. As your injury heals, we are able to help you with the rehab process in order to get you back to doing what you love sooner.
Chronic Pain
I hear all too often from people that they have “had that pain for years and it’s just something I have to live with”. This way of thinking is something I am passionately trying to change. Through careful evaluation and diagnosis we can create a treatment and exercise plan that works for you in order to get you back to doing the things you love and feeling great. We also have a great referral network and can point you in the direction of someone we think may be better suited to support you if we feel it is needed.
Headaches & Neck Pain Treatment
Headaches and migraines are one of the most debilitating pains and can leave you feeling lethargic and miserable. Our initial aim is to determine the cause of the headache and treat accordingly. The most common cause stems from tension in the neck and shoulders, and is often a result of stress and/or posture. Direct treatment of these areas, as well as postural education, can help to alleviate tension in the head and get you back to feeling yourself again.
Pregnancy & Postpartum
Through the journey of pregnancy, the human body goes through massive physical and hormonal changes. The fast growing bump and the increased laxity of the ligaments can wreak havoc on the lower back and pelvis. Osteopathy can support your body through this journey by balancing the pelvis and maintaining spinal alignment. Not only can we make your pregnancy more comfortable, but we can aid in preparation for the labour and birth.
While pregnancy is a journey, postpartum is a whole other journey in itself. Osteopathy can help to assist in your physical recovery, aid you in regaining your core strength and work through any niggles that may arise from carrying your ever growing baby.
Lower Back Pain Treatment
One of the most common injuries I see in the clinic is low back pain. Sometimes it stems from chronic pain, but usually it is an acute (short term) attack that is easily able to be settled down in 1-2 treatments with gentle osteopathic treatment such as massage, articulation and stretching. I often find that the acute episode stems from movement pattern or muscular imbalances in the body that have been there for longer than the pain, so the ongoing treatments involve a lot more exercise prescription alongside hands on treatment to ensure that the acute spasm doesn’t just keep on happening!
Exercise rehab
I love osteopathy and how with a few simple techniques, I am able to work with the body to get the individual out of pain and back to a good functioning level. However, over the course of my career, I have also become very passionate about giving every individual the education and the tools for them to manage their own bodies, and not become reliant on somebody else ‘fixing’ their pain. I offer 1-on-1 specialised rehab/exercise appointments to correct muscular imbalances via pilates and weights based exercises.
